Summer Fun At Put-in-Bay
The Lake Erie islands are the place to be for the next few weeks of summer!
Put-in-Bay hosts a wide variety of events, starting with the annual Put-in-Bay Barbershop Quartet Show on Aug. 13. Bash on the Bay, featuring Blake Shelton and Keith Ur- ban, is Aug. 25 and 26.
The 208th anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie will be observed on Sept. 10. The Jet Express will travel from Port Clinton to Put-in-Bay, then from the island to the site of the battle. The commemoration will include a wreath-laying cer- emony. Put-in-Bay’s Arts in the Park event is the following day, Sept. 11.
Sept. 18 is a day to work multi-tasking into your enter- tainment – it’s the date of the island’s celebration of halfway to St. Patrick’s Day, as well as New Year’s Eve and the Put- in-Bay Music Festival. Finally, the annual Put-in-Bay Road Races are scheduled for Sept. 23 and 24.
Kelleys Island
On Kelleys Island, the annual Homecoming celebration is Aug. 13 and 14. The Island Singers Concert is Sept. 4, and the Glacial Glimpses event is Sept. 5. Kelleys’ Treasure Is- land Day is Sept. 11. Sept 18 will be a fun day to visit, so you can enjoy the Wine, Art, & Food Fair plus the Feathers & Foliage Festival.

Don’t forget the Big Splash Raffle Aug. 20 and 21 at the Sandusky Bay Pavilion. Proceeds benefit the Sandusky Mar- itime Museum. Prizes include a Jeep Renegade, a Harley-Da- vidson Street Glide, a Ford Mustang convertible, and plenty of cash (by “plenty” I mean one of the prizes is $50,000).

Please support the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council for the Toasting Transformation fundraiser on Aug. 21 at The Arts Garage. Really, please support it. I’m one of the organizers. Visit https://TRANSFORMATION.givesmart. com to purchase tickets and register for the online auction of pieces donated by local artists. You can also purchase tick- ets at Lilly & Gert’s in Port Clinton. If you can come to the in-person event you will also be able to see the exhibit of 50 photographs from the Vietnam War by Pulitzer Prize-win-
ning photojournalist Eddie Adams. That exhibit will be on display through Nov. 14.

One fun thing that I noticed while researching this column – local community theaters have started au- ditions and rehearsals for the coming season! Look forward to productions in Bellevue, Fremont, and Sandusky. You don’t have to wait, though! Playmakers Civic Theatre in Port Clinton is offering “How to Sur- vive a Zombie Apocalypse - Reloaded” through Aug. 14.

We have plenty of ongoing events to enjoy in our area, including farmers’ markets in Huron on Thurs- days; in Norwalk, Sandusky, and Vermilion on Satur- days; in Lakeside on Tuesdays and Fridays; and Aug. 15 and 29 and Sept. 12 in Port Clinton. Don’t forget to enjoy the live music at the Meals on Madison (M.O.M.) Stage in Port Clinton! It’s like a low-key street party several nights a week.
